Sherwood Forest, 20 years later

Sean Connery as Robin, Audrey Hepburn as Marian, Robert Shaw as the Sheriff, Richard Harris as King Richard, Nicol Williamson as Little John, et al. make the most of the tawdry material given them. If we could for one moment believe the situation, Connery and Hepburn would surely touch our hearts more
than they do. Shaw is perhaps the best of the lot, presenting the proverbially evil Sheriff as a villain elevated by nobility and intelligence.
Robin and Marian is basically a failure, but it has its moments. Even if we laugh at it more than with it, it isn't boring, and it isn't depressing. Mostly it's just pretty damn silly.
Albee's own Virginia Woolf

"old Floozie" (directed at George) and "Christ and all those girls," as well as Albee's own homosexuality. This seems an extreme interpretation, though. Nevertheless, it is clear that Albee does me it as a principal theme. George, for example, repeatedly derides biologist Nick for planning to create a race of
perfect, blonde, blue-eyed test-tube babies, thereby abolishing the .variety (by implication, homosexuality) of human life. And at one point he reads aloud from a book: "And the West, encumbered by crippling alliances, burdened with a morality too rigid to accomodate itself to the swing of events, must... eventually... fall."
I hear that when a Broadway production begins Sunday matinees (as Virginia Woolf has) it is doing. far from capacity business. If such a stunning revival closes before I have a second opportunity to see it or, worse yet, before you have a first, let me know and we can mourn together.

Q: I've heard that singer/actor David Cassidy recently told a reporter he is gay. Is this true, and are the rumors true that he posed nude for a gay magazine?
S.D., Akron, Ohio
A: Supposedly, the former teenage idol responded to a question posed by a staffer on a German gay periodical while on a European tour about two years ago, and, so the story goes, he alluded to being a bisexual, saying "I. would hate to think any of my (straight) fans would dislike me just because I occasionally slept with men." As for posing for gay publications, he probably has done

so (we've seen cropped torso shots that appeared to be taken fully unclothed), but we haven't been able to get our hands on a single full-length legitimate print. A handful of mail order houses are currently sending promotional literature to persons on gay mailing lists. claiming to offer photos of Cassidy in the raw. We sent off for a copy of Nude Stars, which in its promo piece features an illustration of the "cover" of the magazine with Cassidy as a main feature. Two weeks later the merchandise (which sells for $10) arrived from the mail order company, Publishers West. It was disappointing to say the least. Upon careful examination we find that the "cover," which vividly attracts notice and suggests that there are at least several photos of Cassidy inside, is a fake and not even a well-done one. Above the waistline it's him, all right; but below, while it might be him it is definitely part of some other picture, pieced together with the upper body shot. Inside, we found only one shot of Cassidy and it was not a full nude. The other pages (there are 92, none in full color) are filled with photos from 1950s bodybuilding mags and motion picture "stills" taken directly from fan magazines showing male and female stars semi-clothed. Perhaps attractive to nostaligia buffs, Nude Stars is a rip-off at $10 and has a cover that deserves to be busted for false advertising." Q: I'm planning to go as a spectator to the summer' Olympics in Montreal. How can I find out what "gay Montreal" is all about? Is there a number I can call when I get there that would supply the local run-down on gay establishments and activities?

Q:
For some time, department stores have carried adult-type party games that seemingly would lead their players into some sort of sexual activity. Every one of these games seem to be very "heterosexual" in spirit are there similar games for gays?
R.V., Upper Darby, Pa.
A: There are several varieties of gay-male-oriented playing cards that lend themselves well to strip poker, and there is a game called "Gay Weekend" that is a gay version of many Milton-Bradley-type offerings, However, as we go to press a gay-owned firm known as "Fun Mates" is completing the manufacture of a new game called "Gay Strip-Down," and we have obtained a prototype of it. In its pre-release advertising, Fun Mates promises "free sex" to players of "Gay Strip-Down. Theoretically, this is true. From the prototype it appears that the game will be of high quality and includes a brilliant multi-colored playing board, dice, playing pieces, fake money, a rule book, and "reward" and "penalty" cards. The object of the game which is by no means a cinch to win is to be the first to become totally nude or to amass $2,500 in fake money. Players travel the various "paths" on the playing board and obey the commands on the spaces where their playing pieces land and on the reward or penalty cards they draw. The winner's prize: five minutes in the nearest bedroom with the player of his choice. The game may continue indefinitely and when the "winners" emerge from the bedroom they may rejoin the game in progress after surrendering all but $500 of their fake money and putting all of their clothes back on. Blank penalty and reward cards are available for those who feel Fun Mates' cards are too tame for their tastes; simply make up penalties and rewards to suit the gathering. "Gay StripDown" sells for $10.95, with complete info and a $1 discount coupon available from Fun Mates Games, P.O. Box 6466, San Francisco, Calif. 94101.
